Little Dresses

Megan in her "Dorothy" dress.

Cutting out this little dress, I was reminded of all the dresses I used to make for Megan. I decided to sew and gather on this card like I used to do with her dresses. When Megan was little  she would ONLY wear dresses. - not just dresses, but frilly dresses. I used to sew her little dresses at night after she went to bed. I remember gathering yards and yards of fabric to make the full skirts and sewing on pearly buttons, trims and decorative ribbons. It was so fun to pick out the fabric, ribbons and buttons. Now my little girl is taller than I am and wears jeans, shirts and sports uniforms.  I now place buttons and ribbons on cards instead of little dresses.  - Where do the time go?

Party Favors

Today my good friend Ellen (Auntie) and I  had a surprise luncheon for our dear friend Kim who is turning 40.  These are the favors we created for the table. Inside the favor we tucked some beautiful green wrapped chocolate truffles for the guests since Kim's favorite colors are green and purple.  Kim loves handbags and shoes so we went with the "Luv Ya" purse template.  I think they were simple but elegant and looked lovely on the set tables. I used the Tiny Tags stamp set and Jewelry Tag punch to create the name tags for the hand bags. The Tiny Tags stamp set and Medium Jewelry Tag Punch are featured in the Spring Occasions Mini-Catalog, but happily will be continued in the 2010-2011 catalog.

Paper - Cottage Wall DSP, whisper white card stock
Stamps - Tiny Tags
Accessories - Finial Press embossing folder, birds and bloom die, medium jewelry punch, whisper white taffeta  ribbon, pretties, white thread

My Funny Valentine - A Birthday/Valentine Card

Isn't he cute!

On Valentine's Day 2001, we were blessed with a little Valentine boy, Jake ( although his sister may not agree at times). It seems like he arrived just a few months ago, but soon he will be 9. When he was born my doctor remarked " Finally there will be a boy that gets presents on Valentine's Day." He really enjoys the fact that his birthday is on this holiday.  Needless to say, Valentine's Day is always a day for celebration in our home. This is my birthday/valentine card for my funny Valentine, my love, Jake.

"My funny valentine, sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart."
from "My Funny Valentine"

Masculine Valentine

Here's my take on a masculine Valentine card. I kept thinking about a heart tattoo and how to convey it to a card. Although not that rugged, the tattoo also needs a leather studded band to go with it.

Paper - Night and Day DSP (retired),  black, whisper white and real red card stock
Stamps - Yummy (retired)
Ink - black
Accessories - full heart punch,  daubers, jumbo eyelets, vintage brads, black Stampin' Write marker

PPA28 - Color Challenge - A French Song Bird

Ppa28 color challenge

This week's PPA challenge is to use the above colors. Well, this card definitely has a lot going on. I have been wanting to use the little bird in the cage from the Happy Moments set. I mistakenly ordered the stamp set in french but decided to keep it and use the french greetings to mix things up a bit. Well, my little french bird needed some french decor and what is more appropriate than a little toile? French decor usually has lots of layers so I added lots of elements to this card such as the epoxy brad layered with the filigree brad on top of the ribbon, on top of some scallops - whew! Prior to making this card, I had just a moment to practice on the piano and thought this bird needed some notes to sing so I added some notes to his little greeting.

Paper - whisper white, black, melon mambo and pretty in pink card stock
Stamps - Belle Toile, Happy Moments
Ink - basic black, pretty in pink, melon mambo
Accessories - filigree and epoxy brads, whisper white satin ribbon, dimensionals, scallop trim border punch, scallop dies

Last night was our "Boys to Men" card class focusing on making cards for the boys and men in our lives.
